Finding a job is an art – Suck it up!

I recently changed my status to “Unemployed” and decided that because my business wasn’t going the way I’d planned it was time to take my experience and go work for someone. In the beginning I spent hours just sitting looking at my CV to make it perfect for any perspective employer to drool over. I didn’t really know what I was supposed to be writing.
After applying to a few jobs though seek.co.nz the rejections started to come in one after the other. With each disappointment came another light at the end of the tunnel. Someone must have a need for my skills. Someone must find value in what I can do for them. So far I’ve been positive about everything even about the rejections.
One thing I quickly learned is you can’t just have one copy of your CV. You need to sit down and tailor it to the industry you’re trying to tap into. I’ve been told many things but the worst was being told I didn’t have what it takes to pump gas at the petrol station I applied for.
With rejection after rejection I soon learned that my McDonalds management qualifications I got in the late 90s now mean nothing. The skills I got from being self employed are more of a turn off for employers than something they would hire me for. All this information had to be stripped out of my CV for certain jobs.
Tonight I sat on seek and applied for a few more jobs. I tinkered with my CV some more and sat and smiled telling myself “It will be all right… there is a job for me out there…somewhere.”
