State highway one here I come.

Today is finally the day! After a week of planning I’m hitting the road at about 0530, following state highway one all the way down to Palmerston North.
I expect the trip to take about seven hours because there are quite a few stops that I want to make on the way. Hopefully I’ll be on schedule enough to catch up with a few Tweeters along the way.
When driving long distances you should always break your trip up into sections and take a break at least every couple of hours. It’s good practice to get out of the car for a minimum of fifteen minutes, walk around to get the blood flow back to your feet then continue on your journey.
I’ve always been told to drive in the hours you would normally be awake so being a soldier in the Army part time has made these really early morning starts bearable.
My mission for this trip: To cover as many small towns as I can in the shortest period of time by following only state highway one and to arrive in Palmerston North no later than 1500 on the 26th August.
Next post will be in about an hour if all goes well.
