One more sleep until I fly home.

Updating my website from the back of the car. This week that I’ve been in Christchurch has revelled quit a lot about the way that I do things. You know, the small things like being online and talking to customers and keeping up with all the social networks I’m a member of.

I managed to complete a few posts from a remote location on the back of Matt’s car in Hamner Springs and another post wile north of Waiau. Waiau doesn’t have enough coverage to connect to any mobile broadband. It was fun to do and for some reason working on the boot of the car seems to have people stop and steer.

Sometimes I travel so much I almost feel homeless to the point of sleeping in a different place night after night. The thought of going home though seems to be daunting. Back to reality, work and planning the next adventure around the country or over seas.

Updating my website in a cafe. This trip revealed to me a few simple truths about what I thought was possible. Firstly, being able to live remotely for long periods of time is really still only fiction with the prices of mobile broadband. Knowing people with a Wi-Fi connection is always something to think about.

Secondly and probably something I never really thought about is the size of your mobile device. I haven’t posted much while I’ve been away mostly because I’ve been worried about posting without a spell check and the netbook Vodafone gave me hasn’t yet been graced with word processing software.

Lastly and just for the sake of ranting you need to keep an eye on your mobile data usage. Vodafone has no way really of checking what data you’ve used in real time without using more data. The netbook using Windows XP Home with the default settings will automatically download updates from the web. Even when locked down it sill managed to sit there sucking up data from the web. Matt my IT guru managed to come up with a decent solution to fix this.

Setting up my little camera for a video blog!

Talking to the camera with the snow behind me!
